Steele

FAQ

Is Steele Cooperative Preschool a full-time or part-time preschool?

We are a part-time program and follow a traditional school calendar from September through May. Tadpoles meet 2 times/wk for 2 hours, Polliwogs meet 3 times/wk for 2.5 hours, and Frogs meet 4 times/wk for 3 hours.

How old does my child need to be for a certain class?

Tadpoles must be at least 30-months-old by October 1st, Polliwogs must be 3-years-old by October 1st, and Frogs must be 4-years-old by October 1st. No exceptions are made for minimum age requirements.

What if my child turns the minimum age after October 1st for tadpoles?

If you’d like to attain a spot and your child turns 30-months-old after October 1st please submit a registration form and fee to be included in the lottery. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified.

What kind of teaching/educational philosophy does Steele follow?

Our program is play-based providing a broad range of learning experiences including how to participate in groups, how to cooperate, and how to share.  Students learn new skills, express their own creativity, and are guided towards greater independence, self-confidence, and self-fulfillment.

We offer activities and play materials appropriate for each age group during class. Classroom activities include music and dance, supervised free play, lesson and circle time, arts and crafts, dramatic and creative play, gross and fine motor skill activities, share time, snack time, playground time, and storytelling.

What is the first step of the enrollment process?

You must tour the school as your first step. Because we are a cooperative and unique in many ways, we want to make sure that you have all of the information necessary to be sure that Steele is a right fit for your child and your family. Please contact the Tour Coordinator to schedule a tour.

I toured the school and we want in, now what?

Registration for the upcoming school year opens January 1st. Please submit a registration form and registration fee to be placed in the lottery.

My child has been waitlisted as a result of the lottery, now what?

All families who have been offered a spot must accept by May 1st. Most movement on the waitlist occurs by May 1st and some movement during the summer. You are kept on the waitlist for the entirety of the school year for which you applied. If you would like an update on your status after May 1st, contact the Enrollment Coordinator.
